What is Advent?

The word “advent” means coming or arrival. The season of Advent is meant to remind us of Jesus Christ’s first coming and point us toward his second. It’s meant to cultivate in us both a sense of wonder as we consider his incarnation and anticipation as we consider his second coming. It is a time to remember, to rejoice, and to turn our hearts toward the Lord in preparation for Christmas and for Christ’s return. Advent is a season characterized by watching, waiting, patience, prayer, longing, and expectation.
